MOTS-C
Mitochondrial-level regulation
- What it is
- A 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded in the 12S rRNA region of mitochondrial DNA.
- Studied for
- Investigated for AMPK activation and its role in the folate–methionine cycle, and studied as a regulator of metabolic homeostasis and substrate utilisation.
- Why it's in this stack
- Both compounds above act at receptors. MOTS-c is studied a level down, inside the cell — which is why it is commonly run as a parallel arm rather than a substitute.
